To mark the return of Shire horses to their Burton upon Trent home, the National Brewery Centre has launched a competition to name the youngest of a pair of Shires that will be at the centre from the 1st May when it opens to the public.
To enter, simply email your suggestion to shires@nationalbrewerycentre.co.uk . The yearling colt will partner a two-year old gelding called ‘Major’. The lucky winner will receive a Family Ticket to the National Brewery Centre. The competition closes at midnight on the 31st March 2010.

The Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) sponsored legwax takes place this Sunday 14th March at the Fitzwilliam Point to Point, in the bar in the centre of the course. The event has been organised by jockey Tony Williams, who received outstanding support from the IJF when he broke his leg last year, alongside his wife, Becky, the event will see ten of the region’s top jockeys go through the pain of having their legs waxed in full public view. This is part of a full day of Equine entertainment including the seven races scheduled and two pony races.

Cottenham hosts a busy day of equine entertainment on Sunday March 14th when the main attraction is the 102-entry Fitzwilliam (Milton) Point-To-Point which commences at 1pm. There are also two pony Races at noon and 12.15.
Cottenham is four miles north of Cambridge near the B1049, post code CB24 8RG. It is best approached using junction 33 of the A14. Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s free and racecards priced at £2.50

Triple Olympian and the 2009 HOYS Equestrian of the Year, Richard Davison, is set to entertain the crowds at the forthcoming British Open Show Jumping Championships with an insightful Dressage Master class on Friday 9th April.
Richard will be assisted by members of his family to demonstrate a range of training tips to help get you and your horse on the right track for Dressage. Team Davison will enlighten the British Open audience with their expertise, assisting both those looking to improve in the sport and those interested in using the techniques to best effect in other equestrian disciplines.
Gillian Davison, Richard’s wife, who has ridden internationally at grand prix level, will be taking part in the demonstration riding either grand prix dressage horse Hiscox Komanchi or Hiscox Aliano. Whilst Richard’s youngest son, up and coming Show Jumper Joe Davison, will also take part in the demo riding one of his Show Jumpers Egano Star or Lantino.

The British Horse Society has announced the nominations for this year’s BHS Queen’s Award for Equestrianism. The Award, which is made on the recommendation of the Trustees of The British Horse Society, is "For Outstanding Services to Equestrianism".
Representatives from across the spectrum of equestrianism were invited to nominate one candidate each. The nine nominations received (with nominating organisations in brackets) were as follows:
Stephen Clarke FBHS (British Dressage); Rosemary Barlow (British Eventing); Sydney Smith (British Horse Driving Trials Association); Jane Goldsmith (The British Horse Society); Ronnie Massarella (British Showjumping); John Hudson (Endurance GB); Dr Ernie Logan (BHS Ireland); Ernest McMillen MBE (The Pony Club); and Maggie Bradley (Riding for the Disabled Association).
